2021 is starting off well for Rick Riordan Presents! We couldn’t be happier to spend January tearing through Sarwat Chadda’s City of the Plague God. But on top of that, two more RRP writers, Rebecca Roanhorse and Carlos Hernandez, are racking up awards and honors that make us want to read their books all over again.
Last year around this time we were all obsessed with Nizhoni Begay and Race to the Sun. This year we’re going to have to make a little time in our reading schedule for Rebecca Roanhorse’s new novel, Black Sun, which early reviews last fall said was “perfection.” That must be why it won the Alex Award, given to adult books with young adult appeal. Congrats, Rebecca!
In Sal & Gabi news, Carlos Hernandez is racking up the kudos, beginning with his Pura Belpré Author Award for Sal & Gabi Break the Universe. Now Sal & Gabi Fix the Universe has its own accolade, having been named to the Eleanor Cameron Notable Middle Grade Books List.
Carlos was also just named the 2021 Dorothy Carter Writer-In-Residence at the Bank Street College of Education Center for Children’s Literature. In this role, he’ll get to work with a bunch of lucky students on the concept of world building in creative writing . . . something anyone who’s read the Sal & Gabi novels knows he’s exceptionally good at.
And just in time for all this good news, the Sal & Gabi novels are getting a makeover! Click on the images to get a copy of the new editions.
