We’re kicking off Pride with a focus on a very important einherji: Alex Fierro!
Most demigods struggle to live up to the power and the legacies of their godly parents. If you’re the child of the villainous Asgardian trickster god Loki, though, the last thing you want is to follow in their footsteps. That’s why we’re highlighting one of our favorite children of Loki, Alex Fierro, who has consistently proven their heroism despite the calling of their bloodline.
Note: Alex goes by she/her or he/his pronouns depending on their presentation at any given time.
Life Before Death
Despite growing up wealthy, Alex Fierro had a tough childhood. Misunderstood by her parents and bullied for her gender identity, Alex was only able to find solace in her relationship with her abuelo, who taught her pottery. Alex was eventually kicked out of her home and wound up on the streets. Then came the day when, like all einherji, her life began with the death of her mortal body.
Sister Sam
Alex was enlisted as an einherji by his half-sister, Samirah al-Abbas. He repaid Sam for the gift of eternal life with a punch in the face, worried that he’d be stuck in the same gender for the rest of time. But what family reunion would be complete without at least one black eye? The two eventually reconciled, but not until Sam conquered her fear that Loki would be able to sway Alex to the dark side.
Trickster Dad
A few residents of Hotel Valhalla initially believed that Alex was a spy for Loki. What they didn’t understand was that Alex’s fluidity actually made it harder for Loki to take her under his control. As an expert on dealing with crummy parents, Alex never hesitated to join her friends in attempting to take down Loki, and she even turned the training Loki gave her as a child against him. Some kids just don’t appreciate the selfless gifts their parents give them.
Shifting through the Afterlife
As the child of Loki, Alex is blessed with the power of shapeshifting and mystiokenesis. His mother taught him how to transform any random object into an enchanted weapon, including his signature garrote wire. Alex is also able to animate golems made of clay, which comes in handy when you need an instant army of loyal soldiers. And when you could use some help with kitchen clean-up duty. He’s still working on getting them to write decent book reports, though.
Finding Magnus
There was little doubt that Alex would eventually wind up with Magnus, given their early chemistry. Magnus may have had a learning curve when it came to gender fluidity, but he never had any trouble accepting his attraction to Alex. Although their first meeting at Hotel Valhalla could have gone better. How many other people can say that the cheetah that almost mauled them to death would eventually become his significant other?
