Was there any way we were going to let Pride Month pass without giving another shout-out to these two? No other couple at Camp Half-Blood better embodies the healing power of love and connection. Which is why we’re highlighting the greatest hits of our favorite 89-year-old goth teenager and his ray-of-sunshine boyfriend.
Starting from the Bottom
It was a big moment when Nico finally revealed his feelings for Percy in front of Jason and Cupid. While Nico’s bravery was admirable, the truth that he had a crush on someone as tragically straight as Percy was utterly heartbreaking. Thankfully, all of Nico’s friends were loving and supportive. Annabeth never even gave him a side-eye. As far as we know.
From “Friends” to More Than Friends
If Nico hadn’t come out to Jason, who knows if he ever would have worked up the courage to confess his feelings to Will. At first, we weren’t sure they were ever going to get past their we both like each other but we’re too scared to admit it so we’re just going to bicker all the time phase. In fairness, though, that’s a rite of passage for most demigods before they start dating.
Opposites Attract
When it comes to style, Nico and Will couldn’t be any more different. Nico’s got that all-black-all-the-time thing going on, while Will has that bright, glowy, naturally sunny vibe that has made his father so popular with the mortals over the years. Nico has control over the dead, and Will’s healing powers are used to keep people alive. They’re quite literally night and day. It might be hard to see what drew them together in the first place . . . until you remember that rebelling against your parents is a big factor in young love.
(Not that Hades and Apollo disapprove of their sons’ orientations. The two gods simply just don’t like each other.)
Look Who’s Coming to the Campfire
And speaking of fathers, it can be a little awkward to meet your new boyfriend’s dad for the first time. It’s even more awkward when said father arrives at camp in the body of a teenager. It’s the most awkward when you and your boyfriend find yourselves on a quest to help said father defeat three evil god-emperors bent on world domination. Fortunately for Nico and Will, nothing helps strengthen their relationship like continuously risking their lives together.
It’s been a long road for these two, but after a series of seemingly never-ending deadly quests, Nico and Will now have the strongest bond of any two campers at Half-Blood. But if they ever take the trip to Tartarus that Nico mentioned, that could test them in entirely new ways—maybe even break them apart . . .
Kidding! Just kidding! Nothing could ever come between these two.
Then again, we all remember what happened to Orpheus and Eurydice . . .
