Love is grand and exciting, but sometimes it can be pretty hard to talk about our favorite characters’ romantic lives without sparking a shipping war.
That’s why this year we decided to forego the whole Who Belongs with Whom? debate and instead celebrate something we can all agree on: the importance of female friendships.
We asked some of our favorite women from across the Riordanverse what they have planned for this year’s Galentine’s Day, and here’s what they had to say:
Annabeth
“I have a huge architecture project I need to complete for class, so I’m staying in . . . unless my friends want to stand perfectly still and pretend to be marble columns while I sketch out blueprints. Somehow I don’t see that happening.”
Thalia
“Every day with the Hunters of Artemis is Galentine’s Day. We are doing a secret gift exchange, though. I’m giving Reyna a golden dagger with her initials engraved on it. Do you think she’ll like it?”
Piper
“It’s the one day of the year I’m obligated to get brunch with Drew and the rest of the Aphrodite cabin. So I’m going to spend most of the day taking deep breaths, biting my tongue, and resisting the urge not to punch a hole in the wall.”
Hazel
“I’m playing bingo with all the single ladies at the local nursing home. Then we’re going to swoon over some Clark Gable movies and dance the Lindy Hop. Well, I guess they’ll just watch as I do the Lindy Hop. It’s kind of hard on their knees. Still, it’ll good to hang out with people my own age for a change.
Meg
“I’m heading over to Camp Jupiter to ride unicorns with Lavinia. Then she’s going to help me dye my hair purple. Jealous much?”
Rachel
“Galentine’s Day? Oh yeah, I just had a prophecy about that. It went something like this:
You shall go to a spa to help you relax,
Only to find all your credit cards maxed.
Your friends shall bring you a lovely cheese plate
As poor consolation for no Valentine date.
Reyna
“We’re doing a gift exchange or something—I haven’t really given it much thought yet. I’ve been too distracted by this golden dagger I just forged for myself. I can’t wait to show it to the rest of the hunters!”
