It’s (finally) time to say goodbye to 2022! And while none of us know what the new year has in store (except for the Oracles, but they’re being even more cagey than usual), many of our favorite gods and demigods from across the Riordanverse have high hopes for 2023. That’s why we asked a few of them their resolutions for the new year. Here’s what they had to share:
Will Solace:
“Nico and I want to spend more quality time together. He suggested we go on an extended trip in the spring. He even has a specific place in mind. I just hope it’s not too far and not too hot.”
Frank Zhang:
“Well, I accomplished my 2021 resolution of becoming the undisputed Mythomagic champion of Camp Jupiter. Then, in 2022, I became the undisputed Mythomagic champion of Camp Half-Blood. Neither was much of a challenge. The real challenge will be convincing Hazel to play with me. Hopefully I can accomplish that in the new year.”
Hazel Levesque:
“I have plenty of new year’s resolutions. Absolutely none of them involve playing cards.”
Grover Underwood:
“I’d like to go on one last quest with Percy and Annabeth in 2023. Just for old time’s sake. They’ve been so busy with work, college, and ‘couple stuff’ that we haven’t been able to hang out as much as we used to. I miss the old days when we were scrambling to save the world from certain doom while being hunted by bloodthirsty monsters. Things seemed so much simpler back then.”
Iapetus:
“I’d like to see the sun again. I suppose that is not technically a resolution, however. It is difficult to make resolutions down here in Tartarus other than ‘get harassed by fewer demons.’”
Aphrodite:
“As always, my new year’s resolution is to spread as much love and affection across the mortal world as possible. I know I’ve been slacking off a bit these past few years, but this time I promise to get around to it . . . barring any hunky distractions, of course.”
Thalia Grace:
“Wait, what?! It’s 2023 already? I thought we were still in 2020. When you live in the woods as an immortal hunter, time operates differently—it’s easy to lose track. Have I missed anything important?”
Alex Fierro:
“I know I’m already a pro at shapeshifting, but in 2023, I want to take my skills to the next level. I won’t be satisfied until Magnus fully believes that he has befriended a magical talking tortoise on the streets of Boston. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even convince him to ‘liberate my sea-faring comrades’ from the Boston Aquarium. That would be hilarious!”
Gaea:
In the new year, I plan to rise again, reconstitute myself, and exact my final revenge on those pitiful beings you mortals call your gods . . . And perhaps spend less time on social media. Those platforms can be harmful to your mental health, you know.”
Happy New Year from all of us at Read Riordan! Be sure to let us know your resolutions for 2023!
