As much as we want to see our favorite demigods strike out and star in their own adventures, not every character in the Riordanverse can get top billing. Heck, most of them can’t even get a point-of-view chapter!
But with Nico and Will graduating to main character status in the upcoming The Sun and The Star (on sale May 2nd!), we wanted to spotlight our top five obscure, forgotten, or just plain underrated demigods who, in a perfect world, would get their own shot at stardom.
Just don’t hold your breath waiting for any new announcements of these demigods starring in their own books. Instead, let this list serve as a reminder of that smug satisfaction that comes with saying, “My favorite character is so obscure. You probably don’t even remember them,” to your fellow Riordan fans.
5. Silena Beauregard
We know what you’re thinking. “Isn’t she the one who betrayed Camp Half-Blood and worked as a spy for Kronos and the Titans?”
Listen, we’re not absolving Silena of her sins. It’s up to you to decide whether she redeemed herself in the end. As for us, we always thought this daughter of Aphrodite was cool, regardless of which side she was on.
Demigods who break bad are always super interesting, and we wouldn’t be opposed to even more campers turning to the dark side every now and then. We just hope they don’t all meet the same fate as poor Silena . . .
4. Sherman Yang
Ares’ Cabin is home to the most misunderstood campers. When we first met him, Sherman appeared to be a knuckle-dragging bully. But, just as with his older sister Clarisse, each new appearance of Sherman reveals his inner complexity and contradictions. He’s mean and competitive but also seemingly deeply emotional and (sometimes) respectful of his peers.
Unless you’re one of the new kids. In that case, the only side of Sherman you’re going to see is the one that dunks your head in the toilet.
3. Travis and Connor Stoll
Initially, these sons of Hermes were your typical mischievous camp pranksters. Then, in a shocking twist, these goofballs eventually grew up and became the co-heads of Hermes’ Cabin. That is, until Travis left to attend college, leaving Connor in charge by himself.
Or was it Connor who left for college? We’re going to be honest—we have a hard time telling these kids apart. We know they’re not twins, but we still have difficulty remembering which is the older brother and which is the younger. That’s why we had to include both in the same spot. We’re not even sure whether that’s Travis or Connor in the portrait above!
2. Lavinia Asimov
Lavina is most recent demigod to be featured on this list. She may be relatively new to Camp Jupiter, but she made a big impression when she allied with Apollo and Meg in The Tyrant’s Tomb. Her unique look and personality, along with her combat skills and connections to nature spirits, solidified this daughter of Terpsichore as a demigod to look out for the in future.
And don’t lie, you had no idea what a manuballista was before you met Lavinia.
1. Charles Beckendorf
Kind-hearted, popular, intelligent, and hunky? All while being a son of Hephaestus? Simply put, Charles Beckendorf was simply too good for this world. Charles’ time at Camp Half-Blood may have been too short, as he was one of several causalities during the war with the Titans, but he sure knew how to leave a lasting impression!
Without Beckendorf’s heroic sacrifice in The Last Olympian, Kronos would have undoubtedly triumphed over the Greek gods. So, the least we can do is put him in the number-one spot. But odds are that he would have landed here anyway.
Trust us, narrowing down this list wasn’t easy! And we’re sure that many of you die-hard demigod stans disagree with this ranking. Which of your favorite, lesser-known demigods did we neglect to mention? Be sure to let us know!
