Hinga-dinga-durgin, October 9 is Leif Erikson Day, every Magnus Chase fan’s favorite October holiday! Here are some tips for throwing a celebration worthy of history’s greatest explorer.

Strict Dress Code

It goes without saying that Leif had a particular fashion style. Just look at the bronze statue of him in Boston. Magnus claims it looks like he’s wearing a short skirt and a bra over his chainmail tunic. But if you want to cosplay and can’t find any of that on short notice, a simple winged helmet, velvet cape, and giant steel ax will do just fine. Oh, and don’t forget the thigh-high metal boots.

As Leif always used to say, “If you’re not going to go all the way, why go anywhere at all, bro?”*

A Feast Worthy of Valhalla

Vikings and the Norse are known for two things: warfare, and over-the-top celebratory feasts. We recommend skipping the bloodshed and focusing on the party-planning. You can get away with a light menu like a few dozen roasted pigs, twenty chickens, three or four jumbo barrels of Mead, and a fisherman’s net full of assorted seafood. Maybe keep some falafel on hand in case Magnus makes an appearance.

Appropriate Setting

If you really want to be close to the spirt of Leif, consider a destination party with a trip to Boston. Leif was the first European to arrive in New England, after all, and Hotel Valhalla is right there on Beacon Street. And if you were ever wanted to witness the Vikings’ infamous plundering and pillaging firsthand, stick around and watch what Bostonians do after the Bruins lose one of their home games.

Really, there’s no wrong way to celebrate Leif Erikson Day. All you need to do is get together with a few friends, have a nice meal, and then set sail for six long, treacherous months at sea to discover a piece of land you never knew existed.
