Here’s a pro tip: Never travel to the Spiritrealm without a guide. Actually, just to be safe, never travel to the Spiritrealm at all. But if you absolutely must go through the seven courts of hell (to save the soul of a loved one, for example), you’re going to want to partner up with someone who knows their way around the place. Someone like Dahl.
Just don’t touch the hair.
Act It Until You Exact It
Despite his relatively young age, Dahl is undeniably confident in his abilities as a Spiritrealm tour guide. And why shouldn’t he be? So far, there hasn’t been a situation that Dahl couldn’t smart his way out of. That’s why his personal mantra is: Act it until you exact it. Which is basically the undead way of saying Fake it ’til you make it.
Not that Dahl should be an example for any young and impressionable witch. It’s the kind of attitude that only really works if you live in the Spiritrealm full time.
Go, Greased Lightnin’
If Dahl’s general demeanor seems familiar to you: congratulations! You’re up on your knowledge of corny 70’s musicals. Essentially, Dahl patterned his persona on Danny Zuko, the quintessential bad boy greaser, complete with the pompadour and leather jacket.
What can we say? It takes a long time for pop culture to filter down into the Spiritrealm. Maybe Riley can teach him a thing or two about what is and isn’t in style these days.
Not Your Typical CFO
In case you were wondering what exactly a tour guide of the Spiritrealm actually does, Dahl’s job is to make sure that wayward souls get accepted into Cheondang, also known as heaven. In order to do so, Dahl has to guide the undead to the appropriate CFO, or Chief Fun Officer—those responsible for instilling the missing virtue into bitter and unbalanced souls.
Take Riley, for example. Her soul is missing the virtues of honesty, compassion, and community spirit. Hey, don’t get mad at us! We’re just reading what it says here on the sheet.
Oh No
There’s so much to see and do in the Spiritrealm. Yet, because time moves much slower down there than it does up here, Dahl’s life can get a bit monotonous. That is, until he meets Riley Oh, the prophesized Last Fallen Star who will one day usher in the Age of the Final Eclipse.
But that’s not really any of Dahl’s business. He’s just a simple tour guide with a simple destiny. Still, it’s nice to make a new friend. Especially one who suspiciously seems to have a lot in common with you . . .
