He uses his appearance to his advantage, terrozing unsuspecting foes with a full frontal blast of repulsiveness combined with a mighty bellow of “BOO!” His official role is the protector of children, and he takes that role very seriously when it comes to Carter and Sadie Kane. He gives up his ren, or secret name, to the moon god Khonsu so they could continue their quest to save the world–and in doing so, gives up the essence of all he is. Sadie restores him to his former hideous glory in time for him to join the battle against Apophis, the serpent of chaos. Bes once had a crush on Bast, but is now in a stable and loving relationship with Tawaret.
